Banda Aceh (Indonesia), Nov 24: Eleven people have
been killed and some 65,000 forced from their homes by
widespread flooding in Indonesia's Aceh province, officials
said today.

The floods, caused by heavy rain over the province's West
Coast, have hit four districts, West Aceh, southwest Aceh,
south Aceh and Singkil, officials said.

Eight people have died in southwest Aceh since Wednesday,
according to the district's secretary Burhanuddin Sampee, and
three have died in West Aceh, an official there said.

Sampee said the whereabouts of five fishermen in
southwest Aceh were also unknown after a storm hit the
province's West Coast on Wednesday.

Hundreds of homes have been swept away in both districts,
they said.

The officials said the rains had stopped and water
levels, between one and two meters deep in some areas, had
began to subside.
