B-2, B-1 and B-52 bombers used in "shock and awe" campaign

Washington, Mar 22: The bombing campaign over Iraq yesterday involved hundreds of bombers and fighter jets, including the B-2 stealth, B-1 and B-52 bombers, as well as cruise missiles, US defence officials said.

cruise missiles, US defence officials said.

"I didn't see any that weren't on the list," said the
official, who asked not to be identified.

An estimated 1,500 precision weapons were expected to be
used in the first 24 hours of the "shock and awe" campaign,
another defence official said.

The air force said "hundreds of coalition aircraft and
cruise missiles targeted select regime leadership and military
targets in Baghdad and other various cities."

Also targeted in the raids were military sites in
Kirksk, Mosul and Tikrit, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's
hometown.
