Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak left on Wednesday to meet Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in Paris to try to end days of bloodshed.
Israel radio said Barak left early Wednesday for the three-way summit that the sides hope will halt the worst wave of violence to erupt in the region in four years.

At least 55 people, most of them Palestinians, have been killed in six days of fighting that flared following a visit by Israeli hawk Ariel Sharon to a site in Jerusalem's walled old
city that is holy to Muslims and Jews.

The sides are trying to save deadlocked peace talks that have been hurt by bloody clashes in Jerusalem.
