Reacting to rape cases with words meaningless: Karan Johar

Mumbai: The Indian film fraternity took to social networking platforms with full force to vent their anger against the recent gang-rape in Mumbai, but filmmaker Karan Johar says the lack of a solution renders these words meaningless. "I felt so silly even reacting, writing `I am disgusted`, `I am appalled` because I feel it`s so helpless. These are just words, they are empty," the 41-year-old said here Friday at a press conference of the film `The Lunchbox`.

"But what really can we do but react? I think sometimes the words that we write feel empty. Like what I tweeted, it was an organic reaction, but I felt so silly writing those words because they really meant nothing," he added. Karan stated such incidents are an epidemic and needed to be stopped. "It`s an epidemic and it`s not an epidemic you want to spread, you need to stop it. If someone gave me a solution, I would be standing in the front row trying to solve it," Karan said. A woman photojournalist was raped by five men in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound near Mahalaxmi railway station where she on an assignment along with a male colleague. IANS
