Brett Lee announces retirement from Twenty20 cricket

New Delhi: Former Australian speedster Brett Lee on Thursday announced his retirement from Twenty20 cricket.

The right-arm fast bowler made the announcement at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

"After this year, there won’t be any more cricket. I'm excited, emotional, happy and certainly not worried because I feel I’ve made the right call," he said at a press conference at the SCG.

His retirement from T20 means the cricketer has now retired from all forms of cricket.

Lee, 38, had called time on his international career in July 2012, but has been playing Twenty20 franchise cricket for Big Bash League (BBL) and Indian Premier League (IPL).

With 380 ODI scalps in 221 appearances, the New South Wales cricketer is leading wicket-taker for Australia alongside Glenn McGrath. He also claimed 310 wickets in 76 Tests for the Aussies.

Lee's Twenty20 team, the Sydney Sixers, has one regular-season match remaining this season, which would be his last match.     

His fastest delivery cracked the 161 kilometres per hour mark (100 miles per hour), with the blond speedster consistently bowling at 150kph over 20 years, making him a fearsome opponent through his sheer pace and toe-crushing in-swinging yorkers.
