Indian Premier League: List of players bought by franchises at Saturday's auction

Watson had a fantastic Big Bash League campaign followed by impressive performances against India in the Twenty20 series.

New Delhi: The 2016 Indian Premier League was held in Bengaluru on Saturday with Australian all-rounder Shane Watson being the buy of the day for a whooping Rs 9.5 crore by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Watson who played seven season for the suspended Rajasthan Royals, had a fantastic Big Bash League campaign followed by impressive performances against India in the Twenty20 series last month. That helped him being the million-dollar man.

Youngster Pawan Negi and veteran Yuvraj Singh followed suit with the second and third highest value.

Eight marquee players got the action underway in Bengaluru, and out of them, New Zealand's Martin Guptill and Aaron Finch found no takers so far.

The player pool at the auctions on Saturday was huge with 351. Out of those 230 are Indians.

Interestingly several high-profile players were bought respectively by the eight franchises. The two new teams Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions who had drafted five players each in December 2015, were also seen in action.

The first half of the auctions were over and there will be more action to be followed as the day progresses.
