Rio to establish dedicated police station for Olympics

Rio de Janeiro: The Rio 2016 Committee and the police are working together to establish a dedicated police station to deal with crime incidents involving Olympic and Paralympic participants.

Lima Castro, media integration security manager from the Rio 2016 Committee, said during this week's Olympics press operations briefing that the dedicated police station will be located beside the athletes' park in Rio's Barra with an area of 300 square meters, and the unit will be operational 24 hours a day.

However due to the budget issue, Castro admitted that the number of police personnel, to be transferred from other police station in the city, is still unknown, reported Xinhua.

Officials say they will deploy some 85,000 security personnel in total, double the number used at the London 2012 Games, to guarantee the security of the Rio Olympics.
