DoT asks Vi, Airtel to pay Rs 3000 cr penalties in 3 weeks

Airtel has to pay Rs 1,050 crores and Vodafone Idea has to pay Rs 2,000 crores. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended fines in 2016 to the telecom department. On September 15 the union cabinet approved the relief package for the telecom sector.

Cyclone Yaas: DoT sends 6 crore bulk texts in local languages to alert people

The DoT ensured that restoration work has commenced and the telecom networks will be reestablished soon. The DoT has allowed intra-circle roaming in the cyclone-hit areas. At least four people reportedly lost their lives in Odisha and West Bengal as Cyclone Yaas pounded the eastern coast on Wednesday.

DoT meets telcos, associations on new telecom policy

Based on the inputs received today, the DoT will be constituting working groups in the coming weeks to look into different aspects of the upcoming policy, Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan told PTI.
