Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot holds meeting on HSRP

The Supreme Court of India had instructed all the states to ensure the affixation of HSRP and Colour Coded Stickers on vehicles for increased security and easy identification of fuel types. The unique High-Security Registration Plate shall be linked electronically to the vehicle after its affixture on the vehicle on registration. The background for Colour-Coded Stickers for diesel vehicles shall be Orange, Light Blue for the Petrol and CNG vehicles and grey for all other vehicles.

The Minister also ordered HSRP, OEM manufacturers and dealers to put a system in place addressing the grievances of the vehicle owners. He directed the Transport Department to restrain from taking coercive measures in order to enforce rules pertaining to HSRP. "Our objective is public convenience. It was misinterpreted by a section of people that we are immediately enforcing the HSRP rule. This created a panic among vehicle owners," Gahlot was quoted as saying by PTI news agency. The government will give sufficient time to vehicle owners to get the HSRP and colour-coded stickers installed before enforcing the HSRP rules. "We are clear on our part that we will give sufficient time to vehicle owners to get the HSRP and colour-coded stickers installed before enforcing the HSRP rules," he said.

All new vehicles to have high security registration plates from April 2019

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had in April this year invited objections and suggestions from those likely to be affected from the amendment.
