England sport black armbands to pay tribute to late Captain Tom Moore

Before the start of the first Test where England opted to bat, Root had scored 8,249 runs in 99 Test matches, including 19 hundred and 49 half-centuries. The 100-year-old British army veteran, who raised millions of pounds to help Britain’s health service in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic last year, passed away with coronavirus on Tuesday. Root became only the third cricketer to play both his first and 100th Test match in the same visiting country.

England skipper Joe Root pays tribute to Tom Moore after his demise

Moore aimed to raise 1,000 British Pounds but ended up raising 30 million British Pounds ($41 million approx.) for the NHS, breaking two Guinness World Records, and he also received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth. He even wrote an autobiography and helped to set up a charity. England are getting ready to play India in the first of the four Tests in Chennai from Friday (February 5).
