New Delhi: Nasal allergy or allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory reaction to house dust mites, mold, pollution, animal hair, and pollens. It is often mistaken as common cold as the symptoms can be similar.

Allergies can't be cured permanently, but treatment may help. If symptoms are not treated early, they can actually get worse over time. Here are some common nasal allergy symptoms you shouldn't ignore:

  • Runny nose or stuffy nose
  • Itchy nose/throat
  • Sneezing
  • Itchy and watery eyes
  • Coughing
  • Frequent headaches

  • Excessive fatigue
  • Dark circles under eyes

The best treatment for nasal allergy is to avoid pollens and other allergens that trigger your symptoms. Treatments for allergic rhinitis include antihistamines, nasal corticosteroid sprays, decongestants and other medicines. If you cannot avoid pollen or your symptoms become hard to control, allergy shots (immunotherapy) are sometimes recommended.
