India reports 13,596 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, lowest in 230 days

New Delhi: India on Monday reported 13,596 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours - the lowest in 230 days. According to the Union Health Ministry data updated at 8 AM, India added 13,596 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,40,81,315, while the active cases declined to 1,89,694 - the lowest in 221 days.

The death toll climbed to 4,52,290 with 166 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am. The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 30,000 for 24 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 113 consecutive days now.

The active cases comprise 0.56 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.12 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the Health Ministry said. A decrease of 6,152 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. 

India had on Sunday reported 14,146 fresh COVID-19 infections which is the lowest daily rise coronavirus cases since early March. The death toll touched 4,52,124 with 144 new fatalities.

The number of active COVID-19 cases has declined to 1,95,846 and comprises 0.57 per cent of the total infections which is less than 1% of total cases. In a day, the active caseload declined by 5,786.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,34,19,749, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.33 per cent, the ministry said. The national recovery rate was recorded at 98.10 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. 

It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
