Heatwave: Toll reaches 1,735 in Andhra Pradesh

Sixteen more persons died due to heat wave in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 1,735 today, officials said.

Hyderabad: Sixteen more persons died due to heat wave in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 1,735 today, officials said.

"As per information available till 9 PM , the toll has reached to 1,735," an official of State Disaster Management Department told PTI here.

Yesterday, the toll stood at 1,719.

Prakasam district has recorded the maximum number of deaths at 333, followed by Guntur 237, Vizianagaram 205, East Godavari 206, Visakhapatnam 193, Nellore 165, Krishna 80, Srikakulam 68, Chittoor 67, Anantapur 63, Kadapa 41, Kurnool 40 and West Godavari 37.

The figures pertain to the period from May 18 till 9 PM today.

According to the MeT department, rain was recorded at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema yesterday.

The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Jangamaheshwarapuram at 42 degrees Celsius.

However, there were no fresh reports from Telangana today on the heat wave related deaths.

The death toll in Telangana stood at 585 till May 30.
