Court records statement of Somnath Bharti's wife

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday recorded the statement of AAP MLA Somnath Bharti's wife Lipika Mitra, who has accused him of domestic violence and attempt to murder.

Her statement was recorded before Metropolitan Magistrate Manu Goel Kharb in-chamber under section 164 of CrPC, a day after the Delhi Police registered FIR against Bharti under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 498A(cruelty towards partner in marriage), 324(voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.

The FIR was lodged against the MLA at Dwarka North Police Station last evening.

A court here had on July 7 dismissed an anticipatory bail plea moved by Bharti saying the application was premature since no FIR had been lodged against him.

Lipika had filed a complaint of domestic violence with the Delhi Commission for Women on June 10 alleging that her husband had been abusing her since their marriage in 2010.

She had also given a complaint to police in this regard.
