New Delhi: Delhi Government has tied up with Rotary Club for revamping government schools in the national capital by upgrading sanitation and strengthening basic infrastructure facilities like drinking water and toilets.
In the first phase of the plan, Rotary Club will launch a hygiene campaign at 300 government schools and improve cleanliness there besides working on basic facilities for the students.
At a recent meeting of officials and representatives of Rotary Club, Deputy CM and Education minister Manish Sisodia discussed the campaign and assured them government help in running the campaign.
"The hygiene campaign will be run in collaboration with Rotary Club in 300 schools," he said while pledging full support of the government in the initiative that is aimed at enhancing public participation for its success.
The AAP government had earlier expressed its willingness to work with social organisations to increase public participation for good governance, an official said.
Rotary Club office bearer Ashish Garg, who participated in the meeting, said the education department has provided it with a list of 400 schools of which 300 schools will be identified to be included in the campaign.
Rotary Club will do a survey of schools from the list of 400 schools to assess infrastructure there and prepare its detailed proposal. The proposal will be submitted to the government for its approval and further action.
The process of identification of 300 schools is expected to be complete in next week and the preliminary work will begin after a month, he said.
"Basically we will focus on two areas- hygiene and health issues in schools. Clean drinking water and proper toilets for school children will also be covered under the campaign," Garg said.
