Delhi Police launches women safety app 'Himmat' on WhatsApp, Hike

Delhi Police have launched WhatsApp and Hike groups of its application, Himmat on Wednesday.

WhatsApp group is available on the number 8800001091.

It is also working towards launching the app on Apple store and making it available on non-smartphones as well.

More than 30,000 women have downloaded the app which lets women send a SOS signals to alert Delhi police control room, as per reports.

It is being said that 5000 women have already registered themselves with the police.

Till now only two genuine SOS has reportedly been generated, with a woman complaining of domestic violence in Delhi and a teenage girl from Karnal sending a SOS.

Meanwhile, eight SOS messages have been received from foreign countries.

The teenage girl's complain was regarding harassment by a local youth. Acting swiftly, Delhi Police contacted Karnal SP and asked him to take action.

Women can take a picture of the taxi or auto that they are travelling in and send it to the group so that the cops have a record of it.
