New Delhi: A mobile phone was recovered from the cell of former Tehelka chief Tarun Tejpal during a surprise inspection in a Goa prison.
Authorities are now trying to ascertain if the mobile phone belongs to Tejpal as four other inmates are also lodged with him.
Tejpal has denied that the phone recovered from the cell belongs to him.
Meanwhile, the judicial custody of Tejpal in the alleged sexual assault case will come to an end today and a hearing in the case is due.
Tejpal was arrested in November for sexually assaulting a colleague in a lift of a five-star hotel during a conference in Goa last year.
Goa police has charged him with rape, sexual harassment and outraging modesty of a woman. He has been charged under sections 354, 354-A (sexual harassment), 341 and 342 (wrongful restrain), 376 (rape), 376(2)(f) and 376 (2)(k) (takes advantage of his official position and commits rape on a woman in his custody).
Tejpal has denied the charges and has approached Bombay High Court for bail.
