Srinagar: Arrest of a Hizbul militant`s
sister for her alleged links to ultras triggered protests in
Tral town in south Kashmir on Friday as locals observed shutdown
against the police action.

Suraya, sister of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Sajad Ahmad
Dar alias Aamir, was picked up by the police last night
following information that she was acting as a courier for the
militants, officials said.
Superintendent of Police Pulwama M Irshad said the girl
had been arrested for her involvement in militancy.

People in Tral town of Pulwama district observed a
shutdown against her arrest, and vehicles went off the road.
Locals gathered in the main market this morning and started
pelting stones at security personnel.

Police used batons to chase away the protestors and
brought the situation under control, the officials said,
adding there were no reports of anyone getting injured in the
brief clashes.
Meanwhile, minor clashes also erupted between groups of
youths and law-enforcing agencies shortly after Friday prayers
at Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar and Sopore town in
Baramulla district.

However, police acted swiftly and chased away the
protestors, the officials said.
