Srinagar: There were widespread protests in Maisuma locality of Lal Chowk here on Wednesday following the arrest of a youth allegedly involved in stone-pelting.
Local youth from Maisuma held protests and indulged in intermittent stone-pelting against the arrest of Asif Ahmad Dar, police said.
Dar was arrested Tuesday night for being allegedly involved in stone-pelting incidents, they said.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed in Maisuma and adjoining areas like Gaw Kadal, Budshah Chowk and Red Cross road due to the disturbance cause by the protests, police said.
Additional police personnel have been rushed to the area to maintain law and order, they added.
There were no reports of anyone getting injured in the clashes between the two sides but the area continues to be tense.
