Badole clears air on alleged scam in purchase of computers

Minister for Social Justice Rajkumar Badole on Thursday rubbished allegations of irregularities in the purchase of computers for tribal hostel students in Maharashtra.

Nagpur: Minister for Social Justice Rajkumar Badole on Thursday rubbished allegations of irregularities in the purchase of computers for tribal hostel students in Maharashtra.

"There is no irregularity in the purchase of computers for tribal students as there was no tender process involved and the entire purchase was on the basis of rate contract with some companies," Badole told the State Legislative Council here.

The minister was replying to a question raised by NCP's Jaydev Gaikwad and seconded by members Anil Bhosle, Sunil Tatkare, Nago Ganar and Anil Sole, all whom had pointed out that there was an alleged scam to the tune of Rs 24.28 crore in the purchase of computers.

In reply to the question, Badole informed the House that during 2010, 2011, and 2012 the government had purchased 2,940 computers for Rs 10.32 crore for government hostels, where as 4,676 were bought for Rs 19.62 crore for private hostels.

If anyone is found guilty of any irregularity, he shall be punished, the minister assured the Council.
