Kolkata, Oct 24: Shreyashi Chowdhury, the teenaged daughter of Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury, died Monday night of injuries sustained after she allegedly jumped from her fifth floor apartment last week, police said.
Brig (retd) S.B. Purakayastha, the president of the hospital where Shreyashi, 18, who was on the life support system for the past six days, confirmed her death.
Shreyashi died around 8.25 p.m., Purakayastha said.
Her condition had started deteriorating Sunday and she was not responding to treatment.
Shreyashi fell from the fifth floor roof of a high rise at Golpark. Police suspected it was a suicide attempt though the cause of her action was not yet known.
Chowdhury and his wife were not at home when the girl, who was in class XI, met with the tragedy.
Adhir Chowdhury, MP from the Behrampore constituency in Murshidabad district, was in the eye of the storm recently and was put behind bars over his alleged involvement in a case of double murder.
From Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi to rival Communist leaders, state ministers and MPs visited the hospital in the past few days when Shreyashi was battling for life.
