New Delhi, Jan 31: The human resource ministry will improve the
National Child Policy by incorporating the views expressed by a
survey of children on what they expect from the government, their
parents and the society.

Disclosing this in the Lok Sabha today, Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development Jaskaur Meena said the survey was conducted among 7000 children across the country on November 14 (Children's Day) this year.

Wrapping up a discussion on a private member's resolution seeking to constitute a National Children's Commission, moved by Congress member Renuka Choudhary, Meena said the Centre had a proposal to constitute a national commission for children and also to set up similar commissions at state levels.

The draft of the proposed bill was ready and it had already been taken up with the state governments. Two states had so far responded to it.

She said the problems of the children, especially of the destitute, deprived and those on the street, could be solved if the society was enlightened and awareness created. What is paramount is social awakening.

The minister said the government had serious concerns about the welfare of the children and was committed to improving their lot. It was with this objective that the government had been implementing a host of new programmes and schemes aiming at integrated child development. It was this government that had made the children's education compulsory.
