Raipur, Dec 05: Former Union minister Raman Singh was today elected leader of the Chhattisgarh BJP legislature party and will become the new Chief Minister of the state.

Raipur, Dec 05: Former Union minister Raman Singh was today elected leader of the Chhattisgarh BJP legislature party and will become the new Chief Minister of the state.

Singh, an MP from Rajnandgaon who did not fight the assembly polls, was elected at a meeting of the newly elected legislators attended by party president M Venkaiah Naidu, general secretary Sanjay Joshi, former Union minister Dilip Singh Judeo and Union minister Ramesh Bais.

The Prime Minister had yesterday made it clear that former Union minister Dilip Singh Judeo, who is embroiled in the cash-on-camera controversy, was not in race for the state`s chief ministership.

Raman Singh will be sworn-in as the second Chief Minister of the state on December 07.

The swearing-in ceremony would take place at 1000 hours, Union minister Ramesh Bais said.
