Kathmandu: In a climbdown, the Maoists,
who had been demanding formation of a national consensus
government in Nepal led by them, on Thursday said they are ready to
join such a dispensation "no matter whoever heads it".

Former deputy commander of CPN-M and Maoist
representative to the special Committee for Army Integration
Barshaman Pun said a national consensus government should be
formed as the ruling coalition was incapable of taking the
peace process to a logical end and integrate the Maoist
soldiers confined in cantonments to the Nepalese Army.

Pun said "no matter whoever heads the national
consensus government" they are ready to join it". Earlier, the
Maoists had been demanding leadership of the new government.

Even if the national government is formed under the
leadership of Nepali Congress member Sujata Koirala, the
Maoists would not mind to join the government, he added.

The Maoist leader assured that they would not create
any obstacle to the process of army integration of former
rebels, if it will be worked out by forming an understanding
among the political parties.
