Uttarakhand cops quizzed for suspected involvement in robbery case

A team of police officials from Uttar Pradesh on Saturday interrogated three constables of Uttarakhand police to establish whether or not they played a role in a robbery of jewellery worth Rs two crore from a shop in Bulandshahr.

Rudrapur: A team of police officials from Uttar Pradesh on Saturday interrogated three constables of Uttarakhand police to establish whether or not they played a role in a robbery of jewellery worth Rs two crore from a shop in Bulandshahr.

Interrogation of constables Satish, Pankaj and Deepak was done on the basis of a CCTV footage in which some men in police uniform are seen inside the jewellery outlet at the time of the robbery committed inside Lalit Mohan Jewellers in Bulandshahr on September 11, Udham Singh Nagar SSP Riddhim Aggarwal said.

However, facts gathered from the constables during the interrogation are being analysed by UP police and any further action against them will be taken only on the basis of their conclusions, she said.

UP police suspects that the constables seen inside the jewellery shop in Bulandshahr were these cops from Uttarakhand who had taken Manish Verma from Haldwani jail to Aligarh for a hearing in connection with another jewellery loot case on that date (Sept 11).

A man wearing a helmet is seen in the CCTV footage looting jewellery from the shop on gunpoint in the presence of three men in police uniform.

Police also suspect that the man wearing helmet in the footage was Manish Verma currently lodged in Halwani jail in connection with another case of jewellery loot committed in Nilam Jewellers at Bajpur in Udham Singh Nagar district in January 2010.
