New York, Feb 06: Amid possibility of a US-led attack
against Iraq, a coalition of anti-war groups has urged an
American federal judge to ask New York City to issue permit
for a rally and march past in front of the UN Headquarters on
February 15.
The coalition, united for peace and justice, had earlier
rejected an offer from city officials who allowed the
demonstration in a Plaza across the UN building.
It contend that by denying the permit to protest, the
city has violated the coalition's rights under the us
constitution.
City officials, on the other hand, say they would not
allow anything that could jeopardise public safety or prevent
people from going about their business.
But the coalition argues the city officials had cited
concern over possible traffic congestion.
