Tiktok to shut down India biz but continues to engage with govt; massive layoffs of employees in India at parent company ByteDance
According to a source at Bytedance, the company held a town hall on Wednesday where it communicated about the closure of India business.
When contacted Tiktok spokesperson said the company has worked steadfastly to comply with the government of India order issued on June 29, 2020 and continually strives to make its apps comply with local laws and regulations.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has reportedly issued fresh notices to make permanent a ban imposed on video app TikTok and 58 other Chinese apps in June. Zee News tried reaching the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for a comment but they were unavailable outside regular working hours. A TikTok representative was quoted as saying that the company was evaluating the notice and will respond to it as appropriate.
