On this day: Australia's Brett Lee achieved first hat-trick in T20I cricket
On September 16, 2007, Australian fast-bowler Brett lee became the first bowler to take a T20I hat-trick. Lee achieved the landmark against Bangladesh in the inaugural T20I World Cup, held in South Africa. Lee returned impressive figures of 3-27 from his allotted four overs. As a result of his exploits, Bangladesh finished at a miserly 123/8 and Australia easily won the match by 9 wickets. Since then, 13 hat-tricks have been taken in T20I cricket and Sri Lankan talisman Lasith Malinga is the only bowler to reach the milestone twice. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar is the only Indian to have taken a hat-trick in T20I cricket – a feat he accomplished against Bangladesh last year.

Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan believes his country has the talent in all departments to win the T20I World Cup but currently lack experience of playing against the top sides. Afghanistan had defeated West Indies (eventual winners) in the group match of the T20I World Cup in 2016. The side had also clinched the T20I series against Windies held in India last year. Rashid will soon be seen in action for SunRisers Hyderabad in the upcoming IPL 2020. SRH will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening game on September 21.
