Nitish Kumar returns as Bihar CM; gets two deputy CMs for 1st time: Know all about them

Nitish Kumar was back as Bihar chief minister for a record seventh time on Monday, heading a 14-strong council of ministers including two deputy chief ministers. Kumar was administered the oath of office by Governor Fagu Chauhan at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan which was attended, among others, by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J P Nadda, but boycotted by the opposition 'Mahagathbandhan', a grand alliance of five parties led by the RJD.

New council of ministers headed by Nitish has 14 members, including two deputies  

Patna: A 14-member council of ministers, headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was on Monday sworn in Patna by Governor Phagu Chauhan. Those who were administered the oath of office included two Deputy Chief Minister designates Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi both from the BJP which bagged a lions share of seven berths.

Since the post of a Deputy CM is not a constitutional one, the two took oath as ministers and their posts would be notified by the cabinet in due course.

New Delhi: A day before Nitish Kumar is to be swon in as the Chief Minister, four-term Katihar MLA Tarkishore Prasad was on Sunday (November 15, 2020) named the BJP legislature party leader.

It is also reported that Prasad could be the new deputy chief minister of the new NDA government headed by Nitish Kumar.

NDA MLAs will meet on November 15 to elect leader, says Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

PATNA: Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar on Friday (November 13) that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MLAs will hold a joint meeting and all decisions will be notified. 

This was decided at a meeting of the leaders of the four NDA constituents in Bihar — the JD(U), BJP, HAM and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) at the residence of Chief Minister Kumar on Friday. The meeting will be held at 12.30 pm, said Nitish Kumar, who is likely to take oath for a fourth successive term in Bihar.
