New Delhi: National-award winner Vidya Balan has given several memorable films in her career. Vidya, who has appeared in bold films like 'The Dirty Picture' and 'Ishqiya' to unleashing her quirky side in 'Tumhari Sullu', will reportedly play a gangster in her next. 

According to a report in Mid-Day, Vidya has been approached for a dark untitled film to be directed by Jyoti Kapur Das. For the uninitiated, Jyoti has previously directed a short award-winning film 'Chutney' in 2016. 

As per the source, the film would be based on the crime world and if things go as planned, Vidya will be seen portraying a role that will have a grey shade to her character. Adding further the source said that her character in the film will be of a strong-minded woman who is almost a crime overlord. 

The source added that the actress was the first choice of the maker. Despite showing her interest in the crime movie, Vidya is yet to allot her dates for the project. 

Meanwhile, Vidya also has a biopic on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her kitty. And the actress is expected to begin shooting for the dark film only once she is done with the biopic.

Besides, she is also gearing up to enter the Telugu film industry with a biopic on former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. Vidya will essay the role of NTR's wife in the film that will also star NTR's son Balakrishna in the titular role. The film would be directed by Teja.

But if all goes as planned, the crime drama will go on floors later this year.
