New Delhi: US carmaker Ford will recall around 42,300 units of hatchback Figo and compact sedan Figo Aspire in India to fix a software glitch that could lead to malfunctioning of airbags during a collision.
Ford India is proactively issuing a voluntary safety recall for the two models built at the Sanand plant since the launch until April 12, the company said in a statement.
"The affected vehicles may contain a software error, which could result in the airbags not deploying in certain collisions in which they are intended to deploy," it added.
Figo and Aspire customers will have a software upgrade carried out free of charge through their Ford dealership, the company said.
A corrective action on all Figo and Figo Aspire vehicles, presently at Ford dealerships, has been undertaken, leading to a resumption of deliveries to customers, it added.
Last November, the automaker had announced to recall 16,444 units of compact SUV EcoSport in India to fix faulty rear twist beam bolt, a part in vehicle's suspension.
Previously, Ford India had recalled 1,66,021 units of Figo and Fiesta Classic models in September 2013 to rectify faulty rear twist beam and the power steering hose.
Automobile manufacturers have been recalling vehicles on safety issues since industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) initiated a voluntary policy in July 2012.
