New Delhi: What women need and must do to deal with monsoon woes is something that everyone discusses, but what about the men? Most will be surprised that they have their own set of grooming issues to deal with and the season just adds to it.
Sangeeta Velaskar, Vice President and Head, Medical Services and R&D, Kaya Limited, gives men a lowdown on keeping up with monsoon:
* Skin:
It is a popular myth that sunscreens must only be used for the summer, but using a sunscreen is critical even on cloudy days for protection from harmful radiation. Men could opt for a sweat-proof sunscreen with SPF 30 to ensure that the humidity and sweat doesn't wear the sunscreen off.
Skincare routine for dry skin must include regular moisturisation to avoid dehydration. Dryness strips the skin of all its essential nutrients which in turn results in flaking. Incorporate a cleanser meant for sensitive skin and a cream-based moisturiser.
Use a non-comedogenic moisturiser for oily skin to prevent acne breakouts and a light lotion-based moisturiser for dry and combination skin.
Acne loves the sultry season and the moist weather acts as a catalyst for bacteria build-up. Follow up your skincare regime with an alcohol-free toner to unclog the pores.
Always wash your face, hands and feet as soon as you reach your home with lukewarm water. This not only leaves you feeling refreshed but also prevents bacterial and fungal infections.
It is essential to bathe twice a day to maintain hygiene and definitely once post work-out to avoid infection from sweat
* Hair:
Monsoon season is notorious for itchy scalps, flaking and dandruff. Include a good anti-dandruff shampoo that is mild and also provides moisturisation at the same time.
Wash your hair at least thrice a week and keep the scalp dry to avoid fungal and bacterial infections. Short and regularly trimmed hair would be ideal.
Conditioning is your go-to solution for frizzy hair, opt for anti-frizz conditioners or serums to avoid the humidity disasters and keep your hair manageable.
Excessive use of hair gels and sprays will only cause further damage, so keep the usage of styling products to a minimum.
While it is essential to keep your hair dry to minimise the damage, it is best to limit the use of hair dryers. Switch to dry towels instead.
