PM Modi holds meeting with senior ministers, Kashmir issue discussed

Delhi: BJP core group meeting held in the national capital on Wednesday to discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the attack on jawans among other things, as per some media reports.

The meeting took place hours after the Supreme Court allowed the CBI plea to restore the criminal conspiracy charge against LK Advani, MM Joshi and Uma Bharti in the 1992 Babri demolition case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, union ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and M Venkaiah Naidu were huddled for two hours at PM's residence  but a senior party leader played down the meeting's significance, saying it had a number of issues, including the Kashmir crisis, on its agenda.

Senior party leader and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the BJP respected its leaders like Advani and Joshi and that it would offer comments only after studying the verdict in detail.

The party has held the position that the demolition of mosque was not planned but a spontaneous act of agitating 'kar sevaks' and there was no conspiracy behind its razing on December 6, 1992.

The top court has clubbed the trial in the matter pending against the leaders and 'karsevaks' and ordered day- to-day trial with the proceedings to be completed in two years.

"We have allowed the CBI appeal against the Allahabad High Court judgement with certain directions," a bench comprising Justices PC Ghose and R F Nariman said.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir University and colleges across the Valley remained closed for the second consecutive day today on government orders in the wake of widespread violence by the students on Monday.

These educational institutions were closed yesterday on the orders of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Khan, as a precautionary measure to prevent further protests, officials said, as per PTI.

However, examinations were held in the Kashmir University as per the schedule.

Higher secondary schools in South Kashmir Shopian district also remained closed, the officials said.

Students of many of the colleges in the Valley on Monday held protests demonstrations against alleged highhandedness of security forces against students of Degree College, Pulwama, on Saturday.

The Monday clashes had left injured several dozen students and five police personnel.
