ക്രിക്കറ്റ് കളത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് രാഷ്ട്രിയത്തിലേക്ക് ആദ്യ ചുവട് വെച്ച ശ്രീശാന്തിന് പക്ഷെ കാലിടറി. 34,764 വോട്ട് ലഭിച്ച താരം പക്ഷെ 600 വോട്ടിന് മൂന്നാം സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് പിന്തള്ളപ്പെട്ടു. അതേസമയം യു.ഡി.എഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥി വി.എസ. ശിവകുമാറാണ് അവിടെ ജയിച്ചത്‌. എല്‍.ഡി.എഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്‍ഥി ആന്റണി രാജു 1095 വോട്ടിനാണ് വി.എസ്. ശിവകുമാറിനോട് അടിയറവ് പറഞ്ഞത്. തോറ്റെങ്കിലും മികച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച്ച വെയ്ക്കാന്‍ ശ്രീശാന്തിന് കഴിഞ്ഞു. ട്വിറ്ററിലൂടെ ശ്രീശാന്ത് തന്നെ വോട്ട് ചെയ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നന്ദി രേഖപെടുത്തി.
