Patna: In a major embarrassment for the Nitish Kumar government, the Bihar Police on Wednesday evening arrested ruling Janata Dal (United) MLA Anant Singh in connection with his alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping of four persons, one of whom was later murdered, at Barh in the Patna district.
Singh was arrested hours after Patna Police said that ruling JD(U) MLA Anant Singh's name has cropped up in the Barh kidnapping and murder case, and the legislator's role would be duly investigated.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana told this to reporters before moving out to his new assignment as SSP of Motihari.
Rana was transferred to Motihari in a minor reshuffle of police officers last night and his place in Patna has been taken by Vikash Vaibah.
Rana told reporters that four persons arrested in connection with the kidnapping of four and murder of Pawan Yadav, one of the abducted men, on June 17 at Barh in Patna district have taken the name of Mokamah MLA Anant Singh behind the incident.
Singh, known as a 'bahubali' of JD(U), has been under investigation in the case, SSP Rana said.
The sudden transfer of Rana gave an opportunity to the Opposition to hit out at the Nitish Kumar government.
Jan Adhikar Party founder and Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav today alleged that Rana was moved out of Patna under the influence of Singh.
Yadav sought CBI probe into the incident and said in a statement he would soon meet the Governor in this regard.
Annat Singh, however, had denied any involvement in the kidnapping and murder and said he was being falsely implicated in the case.
Claiming that he is ready for any investigation by the central agencies, Singh accused SSP Rana of taking money from his rivals to implicate him in the case and ruin his political career.
