New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China beginning Thursday, New Delhi has raised with Beijing the contentious issue of Chinese investments in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar disclosed on Tuesday that India has raised with China its concerns over huge Chinese investments in PoK, which were announced during President Xi Jinping's visit to Pakistan last month.

"The matter was raised with the Chinese Ambassador here. It was also taken up by our Indian envoy in Beijing," Jaishankar told a press briefing when quizzed about China cooperating with Pakistan in developing infrastructure projects in PoK.

It may be recalled that Xi, during his Pakistan visit, had promised assistance to the tune of USD 46 billion to help build a strategic economic corridor through the PoK.

The disclosure was made on a day when the Chinese state media accused PM Modi of “playing little tricks” over the Indo-China border dispute and security issues to boost his image back home.

The twin developments do not augur well for PM Modi’s May 14-16 China visit.

There is speculation that amid distrust, Modi may not be able to bring back credible outcomes from China.
