New Delhi: A war of words has broken out between Bollywood filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah over the former's controversial tweets on Indian cricket team's defeat against Australia in Thursday's World Cup semi-final match.

Varma, who has been facing tough times in the film industry after giving back-to-back flop films in the recent years, has kicked up a storm by tweeting that he is happy that India lost the crucial match.

In a series of tweets after India’s defeat in the Cricket World Cup 2015 at the hands of Australia, the filmmaker tweeted:

Meanwhile, NC leader and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah strongly objected to Varma's comments and took a dig at the filmmaker's movies which have fallen flat on the Box Office.

Here's what Omar said:

India's near flawless title defence came to an agonising end on Thursday as they succumbed to pressure against the clinical Australians, who decimated the defending champions by 95 runs to romp into the finals and break a million Indian hearts.

In an engrossing semi-final clash, four-time champions Australia rode on Steve Smith's classy 105 to post an imposing 328/7 before bundling out India for 233 in 46.5 overs to set up a summit clash with trans-Tasmanian rivals and co-hosts New Zealand in Melbourne on Sunday.
