Jammu-Srinagar highway closed due to landslides

The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on Thursday due to landslides at various places in Ramban district of the state.

Jammu: The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic on Thursday due to landslides at various places in Ramban district of the state.

The movement of traffic on the highway was suspended from 0400 hours today due to landslides at Nashri and Khoni Nullah in Ramban district, police said.

Due to the closure of the road, hundreds of vehicles were stranded, they said, adding that men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were working to clear the highway, they said.

Police said Batote-Doda-Kishtwar Road was also closed for traffic due to landslides at various places.

The highway is blocked at Pul Doda and Dansal-Assar, they said, adding that Doda-Bhaderwah Road was also blocked due to landslides and shooting stones.

Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch Road is also closed for traffic due to landslides at various places on the highway, police said.

Doda SSP M S Chouhan said, "We are requesting people to avoid travel for next couple of days."

Heavy to moderate rains have been witnessed in the state since the intervening night of September 2 and 3. So far, 20 deaths have been reported in the state.
