Kozhikode: A 22-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal won a Rs 1 crore Kerala government lottery just three days after coming to the city looking for work.

Mofijul Rahana Sheikh, hailing from Lakshmipur of Malda district in West Bengal, purchased the 'Karunya' lottery ticket on March 04, the day he arrived in Kozhikode, for Rs 50 from a vendor at nearby Vellimadakunnu. Little did he know this would change his fate.

He won the Rs 1 crore prize in the draw held the next day.

Sheikh, who is married and has an eight-month-old daughter, is now heading home.

Fearing for his life after winning the lottery, Sheikh went to a police station and sought protection. Police then took him to a bank, where he opened an account and submitted the ticket.
