India, France sign MoU on Cyber University

New Delhi, Apr 09: India and France have decided to establish a "Cyber University" to exchange information in the fields of education, training, transfer of technology and research.

establish a "Cyber University" to exchange information in the
fields of education, training, transfer of technology and
research.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was
signed last night by Ravi Mathur, joint secretary in the
Human Resource Development ministry and Daniel Vitry, Director
of International Relations, ministry for youth, national
education and research, France, an official release said.

The idea of establishing this university was first
mooted by the French ministry of education during the visit of
French delegation to India in 1999.

For the first phase, some disciplines have been
identified for development of content and delivery of
instruction to students through cyber mode. These are applied
mathematics, information technology, computer engineering,
design engineering, aeronautical engineering, control
engineering, management, environment, teaching of French and
Hindi languages.

The learning resource material would be developed jointly
by Indian and French institutions.
