Dehradun, July 08: Reeling under immense pressure, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Wednesday recommended a CBI probe into the alleged police encounter of Ranbir Singh, a young MBA student from Ghaziabad.

According to reports, the State Home Department has finally requested the Centre to provide the services of its premiere investigating agency after the family members expressed their displeasure to the findings of a CB-CID inquiry into the matter.

Uttarakhand CM had earlier order a CB-CID inquiry into the alleged encounter of the boy but Ranbir’s family had demanded a CBI probe to find out why and how Ranvir had been taken into custody by the police from a dharamshala and later shot dead in the “encounter” in the jungle.

His family said that Ranbir was a very peace-loving boy with no criminal record so a high-level inquiry was needed to unravel the mystery behing his encounter.

The autopsy conducted on the body of Ranbir Singh proved that he was gunned down by Uttarakhand police in an alleged fake encounter.

Ranbir’s body bore 12 marks of bullets fired from close range and 27 other injuries showing that he may have been tortured.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Congress party has also sought an inquiry by the central agency and supported the demand of Ranbir’s father Ravindra Pal Singh for a CBI probe.

However, the police version says that Ranbir, who was riding a motorcycle along with two others, snatched the revolver of a sub-inspector when their two-wheeler was stopped during routine checking of vehicles in view of President Pratibha Patil`s visit.

The three boys overpowered a sub-Inspector and fled from the scene. However, they were later intervened and killed in the ensuing encounter.
