Farooq H Naek appointed as Pak Law Minister

President Zardari administered the oath of office to Naek during a ceremony at the presidency.

Islamabad: Farooq H Naek, a close aide of
President Asif Ali Zardari, was on Wednesday appointed as Pakistan`s
new Law Minister, replacing Maula Bux Chandio.

Naek, who accompanied Zardari to India this Sunday, had
recently stepped down as Chairman of the Senate or upper house
of Parliament.

He had also done a stint as the Law Minister in 2008
before being made Chairman of the Senate.

President Zardari administered the oath of office to Naek
during a ceremony at the presidency.

Chandio is expected to be given another portfolio soon.
In a separate development, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza
Gilani today conferred the status of federal minister on
Sherry Rehman, currently Pakistan`s Ambassador to the US.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard.
Rehman, a former Information Minister, was appointed
Pakistan`s envoy to the US in November last year.

She was a member of the National Assembly or lower house
of Parliament before the appointment.
