Maoists gun down college campus chief, bodyguards in Nepal

security guards, police said today.

Six rebels on motorbikes opened fire at Ganeshman
Palikhe, chief of Janapriya Campus (college) in Pokhara while
he was returning home from the campus yesterday. He died on
way to the hospital, they said.

They also shot dead two of his security guards. The
government had provided protection to him after the Maoists
threatened him.

Police was investigating the killing.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights and Peace Society (Hurpes)
today released a probe report into the Chitawan massacre in
which 40 people were killed in the Maoist landmine blast
targeting a passenger bus. It found the Maoists responsible
for the killings.

The Maoists detonated the explosive with the help of
an electric wire from a tree located 200 meters away from the
explosion site, the report said.
