Pakistani police on Saturday seized a huge cache of weapons which they said had been smuggled from neighbouring Afghanistan for possible terrorist activities.
The arms were found in an empty house raided by police on the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of the southwestern province of Baluchistan.

This is the heaviest recovery by police in recent years and investigations are underway to unearth the racket, Baluchistan police chief Shoaib Suddle told a news conference.

He said two suspects had been arrested.

The arms had been smuggled into Quetta from Afghanistan for suspected terrorist activities in Pakistan, Suddle said.

They included 124 sub-machineguns, 248 rifles, one recoilless rifle and two mortars, plus 342 mortar bombs, rockets and almost 30,000 rounds of ammunition.

This latest recovery is clear proof of how the foreign -sponsored terrorists are out to harm the peace and security of Pakistan, Suddle said.

US forces and Afghan forces are hunting Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda fighters and their Taliban allies in Afghanistan. Hundreds are believed to have fled to Pakistan.
