A 45-year-old man died after he was set ablaze allegedly by three persons of his village after he complained to police that his daughter was being teased by them.

Ram Sewak was set afire by three men in Kaithankheda village under Ajgain police station area last night when he had gone to relieve himself, police said on Tuesday.

In a bid to save his life, he jumped into a pit of water and was rushed to a Kanpur hospital for treatment where he died this morning, police said.

According to the son of the deceased, his father had complained to the police that the trio - Pappu, Kalicharan and Fatte - had been teasing his daughter.

"My father had complained to the police about eve-teasing in April but to no avail after which he had also travelled to Lucknow to take up the matter with higher authorities which had angered them and they decided to teach him a lesson," his son Sanjay said.

He said his father also had a property dispute with the trio.

On the complaint of the victim's son, an FIR has been registered and investigations are on, police added.
