Register FIRs in cases of forced conversions: UP to officials

Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday directed all district magistrates and police chiefs to immediately lodge FIRs on getting information about "forced conversions" and initiate action as per the rules.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday directed all district magistrates and police chiefs to immediately lodge FIRs on getting information about "forced conversions" and initiate action as per the rules.

The government has taken a serious note of conversions through force and fraudulent ways and asked the respective DMs and police chiefs to immediately lodge FIRs on getting information in this regard and initiate action, Principal Secretary (Home) Debashish Panda said in a statement.

The home secretary has also asked the officials to alert the intelligence units and ensure preemptive action as per the inputs to maintain peace, order and communal amity.

In order to ensure that there is no adverse impact on communal harmony and social amity, the district officials have also been asked to apprise the media with the facts of the incidents if they come to light anywhere, he added.
