Soon, Aadhar card to made mandatory for booking Rail tickets

New Delhi: Soon, you will have to mandatorily provide your Aadhar card details while booking rail tickets, as per media reports.

The linking of train tickets with Aadhar card has long been contemplated by the Railway Ministry. A final policy in this regard will be approved within this fortnight, media reports further said.

It would be compulsory to furnish Aadhar Card details for both reserved and unreserved ticket booking for both online as well as counter tickets reservation.

The move has been aimed at tackling the menace of touts in bookings. Passengers often do not get tickets in advance as bulk tickets are being cornered by touts.

The Aadhar based ticket booking will also enable direct fund transfer who seek concession under various quotas such as senior citizens, freedom fighters, differently-abled, students and unemployed youths.

As on date, 105.15 crore Aadhaars have been generated with the UIDAI entrusted with the responsibility of conducting enrolments in all states and Union Territories, except Assam and Meghalaya.

At present over 6 lakh Aadhaar enrolments are being done on a daily basis while over 60 lakh Aadhaar Authentication Transactions happen every day. Over 241 crore Aadhaar Authentication Transactions have been logged since inception.
