Dhaka: Chris Jordan is the name making waves in English circles. The Barbados-born plays for England and in his second T20I, he single-handedly assured a consolation victory for his adopted country.
Such was his performance in the match that, soon afterwards, former English cricketers started calling him their best hope. At Bridgetown`s Kensington Oval, the 25-year-old hit six sixes in his nine-ball innings for an individual score of 27 runs to set-up a fighting total of 165 for the team. Later in the match he clean bowled Merlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin after a superb return-catch of his own bowling to get the better of Johnson Charles. His bowling figure was 39 for 3. Amazingly, besides match-winning contributions with the bat and ball, the former Barbados cricketer also took a breath-taking diving catch at deep midwicket boundary to get rid off Dwayne Bravo. It was some performance for any cricketer, and was befittingly christened `superhero` by the former England off-break bowler, Graeme Swann. Eligible to represent both West Indies and England via a British passport through his maternal grand-mother, the all-rounder opted for England. Spotted by former England batsman Bill Athey in 2005 in a tour to Barbados to find suitable students for scholarship program at Dulwich college in south London, Jordan soon impressed everyone around him, including former England captain Alec Stewart. Stewart compared the young West Indian to another former player Graham Thorpe, who went on to score 16 Test centuries for the English team. Now Jordon have another chance to impress many during the coveted ICC World Twenty20, when England will lock horns with New Zealand in thier openeing match of the torunamnet.
