New Delhi: If form, not reputation, is what the Indian Premier League franchises are looking for, then a certain Martin Guptill may well just be the perfect signing this season.

If the reports are to be believed, Guptill has been put in the INR 50 lakh base-price bracket, a relatively low price for a player in supreme form.

Unlike some of the prominent names, or say established players in the T20 circuit, the New Zealand batsman has been scoring runs for fun and with consistency. And in some quarters, he has already been considered the next Brendon McCullum.

When the auction for the ninth edition of world's premier cricket league happens on February 6 in Bangalore, the 29-year-is expected to spark some furious bidding war among the franchises.

Coming to his form, the right-handed batsman has scored 452 runs in his last ten T20 innings for New Zealand at an average of above 42. Not many can match these figures.

After finding his form back in 2015, Guptill has started the new year in such supreme form that, he was involved in some of the best innings in both the limited overs format.

In his five T20 innings so far for the Kiwis, Guptill has scored in a sequence of 58, 63, 2, 87 and 42.

The only catch is, these innings have come while playing at home. But in the slam-bang version of cricket, home-away factors hardly exist.

With his ability to hit massive sixes, and change the course of a game in a matter of few overs, he will be one of the hottest players to look out this IPL season.

Guptill can certainly be the bargain buy for any of the eight teams.
