The fourth wave of COVID-19 has led authorities to declare states of emergency covering much of Japan, including Tokyo, raising some concerns about the Olympic Games due to begin on July 23.

The Tokyo Olympics, originally scheduled for this summer, were postponed for a year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Olympic Games are now scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8 next year.
